Fangs & Frontpages by Ella Stone

Starting over in Ravens Hollow was meant to be simple - a chance to adjust to my new, nocturnal existence. No men. No complications. Just a bit of light investigative journalism in a quaint magical town by the sea. Then Pongo the pup trotted into my life, and normalcy bled away faster than my resistance to a fresh pint of blood. I’d barely set up my desk at the Ravens Hollow Oracle before a renowned sculptor turned up dead at the town’s annual art exhibition. What better way to get to know a place than by investigating its most suspicious residents? The only snag was Chief Whip - the infuriatingly handsome local lawman who’d rather I kept my fangs and my nose out of his murder investigation. Too bad. The body count is rising, and whether he likes it or not, he needs me. My instincts are razor-sharp. My fangs? Even sharper.

Themes

  • New Beginnings and Identity: One major theme is the challenge of starting fresh. Elodie Evergreen has to figure out her new life as a vampire while moving from London to a small town in the USA for a new beginning.

  • Justice and Truth: As an investigative journalist, Elodie is on the hunt for the "scoop of a lifetime," showing her deep drive to uncover the truth. This often puts her at odds with local cops, highlighting the clash between external justice and personal moral duty.

  • The Conflict Between Safety and Curiosity: Elodie heads to Ravens Hollow looking for a quiet, night-time life away from past dangers like a vampire cartel. But her curiosity and reporter instincts drag her back into risky situations, showing how hard it is to ignore your true nature.

  • Trust and Romance: The dynamic between Elodie and Chief Whip brings in themes of trust and a slow-burn romance. Their professional tension and growing reliance on each other highlight how tough it is to find common ground in a world full of secrets.

Review

I was thrilled to get my hands on this book and dove right in. I absolutely love Elodie's tenacity, determination, and unstoppable nature—I wish I could be like her! I'm also really intrigued by Whip, Alex, Bobby, and honestly, all the other characters. Besides having fantastic characters, the book is well-written, entertaining, and an absolute blast. I suspect there's something going on with Pongo, and I'm eager to see where Elodie's romance leads and discover who...well, you have to read it to find out! So, here it is: an amazing plot with a strong, resourceful main character, a super attractive cop, an adorable puppy, and a fresh start with all the action, drama, and suspense packed into a great read. Can't wait for more!
