Beg, Borrow or Steal by Susie Tate

"Beg, Borrow or Steal" by Susie Tate is like a rom-com with a PhD in emotional intelligence. It's a contemporary romance that juggles love, friendship, and the delightful messiness of human relationships, all while keeping you chuckling and maybe even shedding a tear. It's a must-read for those who love their romance with a side of giggles

Plot Summary

Meet our heroine,Jamie, who’s basically living in a soap opera, juggling life’s curveballs and love's tangled webs. Tate masterfully stitches together a quilt of storylines, showing her characters in their most glorious highs and facepalm-worthy lows. The title hints at the hilarious lengths these folks will go to snag their dreams and keep their love lives from turning into sitcom reruns.

Character Development

Tate’s characters are like the friends you wish you had: flawed, funny, and full of surprises. Our leading lady is a complex cocktail of courage and vulnerability, while the supporting cast adds extra spice, each with their own quirky backstories that make the plot as rich as a triple-layer chocolate cake.

Writing Style

Susie Tate’s writing is like a stand-up comedy routine with a heart. She seamlessly blends laugh-out-loud moments with deep, introspective themes, making readers feel like they’re part of the story. The dialogue is snappy and real, capturing the essence of relationships in a way that’s both entertaining and true to life.

Themes

The book dives into themes that are as relatable as they are entertaining:

  • Friendship: Because who else will help you hide the evidence when life gets messy

  • Love: The beautiful chaos of romance and the heroic sacrifices that come with it

  • Self-Discovery: The epic quest to find yourself when everything around you is going bananas.

Review

Libby is an awesome mom who's doing whatever it takes to chase her dreams. I can't even picture being in her position—a young single mom juggling a job that people judge while also studying in medical school. And then there's Jamie, who's fallen for someone but is wrestling with accepting what they do for a living. It must be tough to find that sweet spot between being supportive, wanting to help them improve their situation, and not being controlling. I really enjoyed seeing both of them grow, both on their own and together as a couple.
