From the Back
Callahan Hastings is relentless when it comes to getting what he wants, and what he wants is me–to be his private chef in the Hamptons for the summer.
My dream job served to me on a silver platter by one of the wealthiest members of Pembroke Hills Country Club.
The only catch? He’s my ex-boyfriend’s older brother with a reputation for being as charming as he is cunning.
But Cal doesn’t take no for an answer. He draws you in with flirty smiles and extravagant promises.
I should have seen him coming, but I didn’t. I should have stayed away, but I couldn’t.
His playful touches and burning gaze have ignited a fire in me. The more I resist him, the more irresistible he becomes.
I've always known there's an expiration date on the job–an expiration date on us. But leaving isn't going to be easy with Cal on his knees, begging me to stay…
Themes
Forbidden Romance (Ex’s Brother & Workplace): The primary conflict centers on Lucy's role as a private chef for Callahan, who is the older brother of her former boyfriend, generating significant emotional and sexual tension.
Overcoming Past Betrayal & Trust: Lucy must overcome her previous toxic relationship, while Callahan, a charming yet shrewd billionaire, needs to earn her trust rather than simply buying her affection.
Possessive & Devoted Hero: A key aspect is Callahan’s intense focus on achieving his desires, which transitions from pursuing business objectives to obsessively caring for and protecting Lucy.
My Review
Callahan was the epitome of perfection. He is brooding, somewhat irritable, a billionaire, and the older brother of Lucy's ex-boyfriend—quite the scandal! Lucy, on the other hand, was utterly charming. Their witty exchanges were delightful, and I appreciated how Callahan was eager to lavish her with attention. He is the first to fall in love, and his feelings are intense, becoming completely captivated by her. Lucy, in turn, shows him that life is more than just work, helping him rediscover joy. A major highlight of this book is the theme of found family. I loved how this group of friends seamlessly came together and supported one another. The only drawback for me was the pacing. Everything progressed rapidly—the relationship, the emotions, the resolution. Given the nature of an ex’s brother romance, I anticipated more tension or conflict, which was somewhat lacking. It seemed like a missed opportunity to heighten the drama slightly. Nonetheless, I am eager to see what the rest of the series holds.
