From the Back

The night I race through a storm because I think my husband might be dying, I find him holding another woman.

For years, Brooks Carlisle and I chased tornadoes side by side. We built the Storm Posse from nothing into a multimillion-dollar phenomenon with millions of followers watching us do what we loved.

Then one storm changed everything.

I lost our baby.

And little by little, I lost my husband, too.

Brooks took me out of the field, moved me behind a desk, and put beautiful twenty-four-year-old Luci Becker in the seat beside him.

Now she gets the storms.

The inside jokes.

The adrenaline.

The version of my husband that used to belong to me.

And millions of viewers can't stop talking about how perfect they look together.

Brooks swears Luci means nothing to him.

But you don't have to touch another woman to make your wife feel replaced.

When Brooks trusts Luci's judgment over mine during a dangerous chase, I can do nothing but listen through my headset as everything goes horribly wrong.

I race to the clinic terrified I might lose him.

Instead, I find Luci in his arms, and hear my husband tell her he doesn't know how he would have made it through without her.

Then he gives me the one answer I can never forget.

He'd rather have Luci beside him than me.

So I stop waiting for Brooks to give me my place back.

I leave my husband, return to the Texas town where our story began, and start reclaiming the woman I was before fear, grief, and a broken marriage convinced me she was gone.

But Brooks Carlisle has spent his life chasing the most dangerous storms on earth.

And once he realizes what he's done to our marriage, he's coming after me.

What You Get

  • high-angst

  • marriage-in-crisis romance

  • emotional betrayal

  • hard-worn second-chance HEA

Review

This story was a quick and short read. It was about storm chasing and had a Twister feel to it. I really like Sam, Brooks and Hershel. I really felt for Sam and how she was feeling left behind and being replaced. The author did a really great job portraying how someone’s nature and desire to protect another could actually lead to them isolating and hurting them worse than their initial fear. It was a bit predictable and I wish Sam made Brooks grovel more. It would have been nice if Hershel had more interaction, since he was such a straight shooter. I don't know if I'll read more by this author, but we'll see what happens.
